Ferry services to and from Elba are provided by two different maritime transport companies, Moby Lines and Toremar. Both companies operate regular services all year round on the Piombino-Portoferraio route and vice-versa.
During the peak traffic period, departures are about every half hour. If you are taking your car with you, it is advisable to book with reasonable advance notice. Otherwise, there is a ticket office near the embarkation point and near Piombino Marittima railway station, which is easily accessible on foot.
The crossing takes between 40 minutes and one hour, according to the route and the speed of the ferry you are on.
