Unspoilt coves, beaches that are deserted even in the summer months, vegetation growing among the imposing rocks almost down to the water’s edge. Exploring the coast of Elba in boats near Capo Sant’Andrea, or even further away, reaching the island of Capraia, gently lulled by the swell of the water, will enrich your holiday with unforgettable suggestions and views. PLACES TO VISIT. Towards the south-west, the large western promontory
of the island, dominated by the peak of Monte Capanne, is circumnavigated,
past the lighthouse at Punta Polveraia and Pomonte, reaching Punta di
Fetovaia, one of the most beautiful points of the island, with un unbroken
view stretching to Corsica. On the return leg, the day ends with a visit
to the Formiche di Zanca.
Towards the east, the itinerary goes past Marciana and reaches the beautiful
Gulf of Procchio (with the famous Isolotto della Paolina, where Pauline
Bonaparte usually sought refuge), then the gulf of Biodola and the gulf
of Viticcio. After passing Capo Enfola, famous for its magnificent seabeds,
the beaches at Sansone and Capo Bianco are reached, both famous for the
transparency of their waters.
A visit to Capraia “La Rossa”, a wild and fascinating island located exactly halfway between Elba and Corsica, is not to be missed. It is still off the beaten track as far as mass tourism is concerned, and is home to a picturesque hamlet with numerous restaurants in which to enjoy the numerous local specialities.
The complete circumnavigation of the island, done in fast boats, lasts
for a full day and includes a stop for lunch in a typical island restaurant.
The itinerary includes numerous exclusive localities, including Enfola,
the beautiful beach at Forno and Calanova, with its beautiful strand of
white pebbles. More lively and mundane places are also visited of course,
including Porto Azzurro, Portoferraio and Marina di Campo, where one can
go shopping or visit places of cultural interest.
